About Cornerstone

In the United States, unlike other countries, there is no single nationwide procedure for licensing or accrediting.  Each of the fifty (50) states sets its own policy for the licensing of institutions and awarding degrees.  Cornerstone University is a degree-granting institution, established as a non-profit corporation in the State of Louisiana.

Accreditation is a voluntary, non-governmental process.  There are many accrediting agencies in the United States, many of them recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or by the Independent Council on Post-Secondary Accreditation.

Cornerstone University is fully accredited by the Accrediting Commission International, Inc. as a Comprehensive Member.  A.C.I. is a nontraditional accrediting commission with Universities, Colleges and Schools throughout the United States and several foreign countries.  A.C.I. is the largest non-governmental accrediting institution in the United States.  For information regarding Cornerstone University’s standing, please contact A.C.I. at:

Article One
We believe the Bible is the inerrant, inspired Word of the living God.  The Bible is the final authority on all matters of life, faith, and practice.  The maxim of biblical interpretation is “Scripture interprets Scripture.”

Article Two
We believe that the Bible is to be interpreted literally according to the grammatical-historical method of interpretation.  Thus, we believe in the literal six-day account of creation as recorded in the Book of Genesis.

Article Three
We believe in the Trinitarian God of the Bible, one in Substance, three in Persons, consisting of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Matt. 28:19, St. John 14:26, 15:26, II Cor. 13:14

Article Four
Man’s only hope of redemption and Salvation from sin is through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.  His blood is completely sufficient to deliver every person from the power and penalty of sin.  Ephesians 2:8, James 1:21, Romans 5:8-13, 10:9, Acts 4:12

Article Five
We believe that Salvation is an act of God’s grace by the work of the Holy Spirit in regenerating and converting the hearts of men by His free gift of saving faith.  John 3:36, 5:24, 20:31, Rom. 10:19, Col. 1:20

Article Six
We believe in the personal return of Jesus Christ, in the eternal damnation of the wicked, and in everlasting life with the living God for the righteous.  John 5:28-29, Dan. 12:2 1Thes. 4:14-18

Article Eight
We believe that there is but one head of the Church, the Lord Jesus Christ, and that it is the responsibility of the Church and its institutions to maintain His Lordship over their activities and not to submit that right to any individual, corporate body, governmental agency, or head of state.  I Cor. 8:6, Acts 2:36, John 3:31, Col. 1:18

Article Nine
We believe that every area of life is to be subject to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  Therefore, we adhere to a world and life view, which seeks to make the Lord Jesus Christ pre-eminent in all things.  Rom. 14:9, I Cor. 8:6, Col. 1:18

Q. What denomination is Cornerstone University (CU)?
A. We are non-denominational.  We accept any student regardless of belief, however any and all course work, exams and papers will be graded strictly on the material supplied by CU.  Personal beliefs or disagreements can be addressed on an individual basis.

Q. How much will it cost to get started?
A. The minimum required to start your first course will range from $270.00 to $370.00 depending on the course you choose.

Q. What are my payment options?
A. Online and correspondence students have the option of paying tuition on a per course basis. There is always the option of payment in full.

Q. If I don’t want to earn a degree, can I just take classes?
A. Yes, upon finishing the course you will receive a Completion Certificate.  Providing an opportunity for people to learn more…… is one of CU’s highest priorities.

Q. Is CU accredited?
A. Yes, we are privately accredited by Accrediting Commission International,

Q. Who can enroll in CU?
A. Anyone who has at minimum a high school diploma or G.E.D.

Q. Is there a CU campus?
A. Yes, our main campus is located at 1605 Broad Street, Lake Charles, LA  70601.  Our campus class schedule starts in August and ends in May.  All students are welcome to visit at any time.

Q. Does CU have graduation ceremonies?
A. Yes, in Lake Charles, LA on the third Saturday in June every year.  The current graduating class and alumni are encouraged to attend.

Q. What if I need help while I am trying to do the studies?
A. CU provides Academic Advisors available to you by email and/or telephone. You are not alone.

Q. Does CU accept transfer credit?
A. Yes, on an individual basis.
